Tegra 4 device launch roundup

After a period of relative silence, apart from the Nvidia Shield, the Tegra 4 has finally made its way into some products, all of which have been unveiled in the last couple of days.

Unsurprisingly, Nvidia’s new top of the line chip is being put to work in tablets and other home entertainment products, remember that the Tegra 4i is now Nvidia’s main smartphone chip.

HP Slatebook x2 and Slate 21

We’ll start alphabetically, with HP’s new Slatebook x2 and Slate 21 all-in-one. The HP SlateBook x2 is a 10.1-inch Android tablet come notebook, as it comes bundled with a keyboard base unit. The Tegra 4 processor in HP’s new tablet is clocked up to 1.8GHz, and is accompanied by 2GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and front and rear cameras capable of recording at 1080p and 720p respectively.

The 10.1 inch display has a resolution of 1920×1200, and the tablet also comes with WiFi, Bluetooth, SD Card slot, and an HDMI port. It will be powered by Android 4.2.2, and is set for an August release in India, with prices starting at Rs 39,990.

Next up is HP’s 21 inch Slate, which is an all-in-one Android PC, complete will a full HD (1920×1080) display.

Disappointingly, for a product which is being sold as a media centric device, the new HP Slate will only ships with 8GB of built in storage. But it does come with three USB 2.0 ports and an SD card reader, so there’s always the options of expanding the device’s storage capabilities.

Hp’s new all-in-one also comes with 1GB RAM, WiFi, an Ethernet port, and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as Android 4.2. The Slate 21 will be available in India at the start of August for Rs 24,990.

Nanotech Nuvola NP-1

Nanotech is the next company to take advantage of the processing power available in the Tegra 4, with its new Nuvola NP-1 media player. The small box comes packed in with everything you’ll need for a home media centre and will even output video content at 4k, if you’re lucky enough to own a TV that supports this ultra-high resolution. The system comes with 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal flash storage, and it has external connections for MicroSD and USB devices, if you need the extra space.

It even comes with Nvidia’s Play-PC technology, allowing you to stream your favourite PC games directly to your TV, providing that you have a compatible GTX graphics card in your gaming rig. There’s also a choice of optional extras available with the Nuvola NP-1, including an infrared remote control, which is included, the company’s RF-10 Remote with a built in keyboard, or a GP-1 bluetooth gamepad. The Nuvola NP-1 is currently available for pre-order, and is priced at $299.

Toshiba Excite Pro and Write Pro

Finally, the last devices in our roundup are the Toshiba Excite Pro and Write Pro, another couple of Tegra 4 powered tablets. These are products which may interested those of you looking for a Nexus 10.1 rival, as they both feature a 10.1 inch 2560 x 1600 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of built in storage, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

The only difference between the Excite Pro and the Write Pro is the inclusion of an active digitizer, in order to make use of the pressure-sensitive stylus technology built in to the Tegra 4 with the latter. These two tablets are the first Tegra 4 powered tablets to land in the US, and are currently priced at $479.99 for the Excite and $579.99 for the Write on Toshiba’s website. Toshiba has also released the Tegra 3 powered Excite Pure at the bottom of its new tablet range.
