Micromax Canvas 4 In Stores But Pre-Booked Orders Not Yet Delivered

All of last month, that image you see above was everywhere on the web. At the launch event of the Canvas 4, in New Delhi, Micromax was very proud to announce that it had received 11,500 pre-orders for their new flagship smartphone. They claimed that it qualified as the biggest pre-order in Indian smartphone industry history.
Well, considering all that hoopla, the execution seems to have gone very wrong. The Canvas 4 is now available for purchase 'off the shelf' in retail stores, and ships in a few days from most leading e-commerce websites. Yet, several people who plonked Rs. 18,000 of their hard-earned 'paisa' just to be amongst the first few to get the device have STILL not received their devices from Micromax.

Here is what Jitendra Solanki, who pre-ordered his phone, had to say to us in an email:

"I feel cheated. It is not an issue about the delay that happened. Somewhere, MMX missed the opportunity to have interactions with customers who ordered. There has not been even a single communication from MMX side.

It feels so awkward when one of my friend shows me MMX Canvas 4 purchased from local market store, while a customer like me who pre-ordered is waiting for it! What was the whole idea of pre-order then? The money that we paid is with MMX for one month at least now, without the product delivered to us. The total of such amount goes into crores, the interest on that much money for one month stands for a lot!"

Customers like Solanki have banded together on a Facebook group and are also in touch via email. Here are some examples of frustration pouring out in email threads that Gizmodo India has been forwarded:

"Very pathetic service by Micromax! They think we are fools here to buy and wait for a month to get our phone,"

"I have cancelled my order. F**k Micromax!"

Now we're definitely not a bunch of Micromax haters - in fact our's was one of the few thumbs-ups that the Canvas 4 got on launch - but this is just an absolute disaster for the company's brand image. We've reached out to Micromax about this issue, so stay tuned for an update with their take on the matter.
