Samsung GEAR smartwatch, Galaxy Note III tipped for September 4 reveal

Sources revealed that Samsung is planning to hold an event on September 4 in Berlin to unveil not only the Galaxy Note III but also the rumored smartwatch that is currently called Samsung GEAR. This event would coincide with with the start of the IFA trade show also in Berlin.
samsung-logo1-550x260-540x2551121
The Samsung Galaxy Note III has been steeped in rumors as it gets closer to the anticipated launch date. Recently, we were treated to some leaked photos showing the internals of Samsung’s next S Pen-powered phablet. Rumored hardware included a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display, 13 megapixel camera with Xenon flash, and a dedicated camera button.
Samsung has also been rumored to be working on a smartwatch, partially confirmed by trademark filings made last month. The filings were filled with keywords related to watches as well as the name “GEAR”. If the launch information pans out, we will be seeing this mysterious device for the first time next month.
There has been very few details regarding the rumored Samsung GEAR, but if it will be launched together with the Galaxy Note III, it is probable that there will be some special mode of interaction between the two devices. It could mean that the GEAR will be something like Pebble which acts as a secondary device to provide quick and easy access to the smartphone without having to pull it out of a pocket or a bag

Next-gen iPad rear shell revealed in leaked photos

iPad 5 Leaked Pictures

Apple’s fifth-generation iPad is coming this fall and that means we’re starting to get a steady supply of leaked pictures of the new device.FanaticFone has just published fresh pictures of the next iPad’s rear shell and has found that its frame measures in at 24 centimeters by 16.8 centimeters, which is slightly smaller than the current-generation iPad that measures in at 24 centimeters by 18.6 centimeters.FanaticFone also notices that “the distance between the border and screen of the iPad 5 is much shorter than the former iPads’” and now measures at 3 millimeters, which confirms earlier reports that Apple would try to shrink down the bezels of its next iPad to make it look more like the iPad mini. FanaticFone’s pictures of the next-generation iPad shell follow below. ipad-5-shell-1 ipad-5-shell-3 ipad-5-shell-2

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini to get colorful new versions

Samsung‘s mini flagship smartphone has barely hit the market and potential buyers already face a new, tough decision to make. Based on leaked photos, the Galaxy S4 Mini will soon be available in three new colors in addition to the previous white and black models.
s4-mini-blue-1
The three new colors available to the Galaxy S4 Mini are red, brown and blue but are given more enticing names: Scarlet Dawn, Bronze Autumn, and Blue Iceberg, respectively. Other than a change of coating, these variants will still be packing the same hardware: 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 4.3-inch qHD display, and the bizarre 1.5 GB of RAM.
We were able to get down and dirty with the Galaxy S4 Mini last June and found it to be exactly that: a miniaturized Galaxy S4. It was quick, smooth, and stable, but it’s definitely not something made to wow people.

The new models will still be running the same Android 4.2.2 version with Samsung’s TouchWiz. There is no word on when these variants will be officially announced. It is also unknown which markets will have it first or if it will be limited to selected markets only.

Moto X reportedly comes with Magic Glass, laminated aluminum structure

DNP Moto X

There's been a deluge of Moto X reports, and it shows no signs of stopping. We've seen the device's press shots, camera UI and benchmark results, and most recently, we've even watched the T-Mobile version waltz past the FCC. Now, we're treated to purported press images and unannounced features from Taylor Wimberly, formerly of Android and Me. According to Wimberly, a sheet of specially treated Gorilla Glass covers the phone's entire face and wraps around its sides, forming a nearly seamless gap with the rear shell. Apparently, it's special enough that Motorola will call it "Magic Glass." As another nod to the phone's toughness, he also claims a laminated aluminum structure makes its frame even stronger, despite being thin and lightweight. Check out the images to decide the report's veracity for yourself, but don't sweat it too much -- we'll be able to confirm it in a few days when the phone launches on August 1st.

High-resolution Battlefield 4 screenshots leaked

If you're starving for information about Battlefield 4, three new screenshots found on EA's Web server might whet your appetite.
The authenticity of the screenshots after downloading the files from an insecure EA Web directory associated with the official Battlefield blog. In comparison with its predecessor, BF4 appears to contain massive upgrades, especially when it comes to textures and draw distance, as well as considerable improvements in the way soldiers and weapons appear.

In a BF4 screenshot titled "Construction," an impressive vista featuring many buildings under development serves as the backdrop, while more than a hundred birds fly above the player's head. There's a healthy amount of anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering in the image, which results in some very smooth, sharp visuals.
EA and DICE plan to reveal more this evening about BF4 during an event at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. We'll keep you updated with the latest. The other two screenshots, "Close" and "Crash Site," might derive from in-game cinematic sequences, but the visuals still impress as there are considerable improvements in aesthetics across the board -- especially with the realistic expressions and sweat-ridden faces.
The best looking shooter yet?

Rumor Has It: Google jumps aboard the smartwatch train

Also on this week's show, the next-gen Xbox might not use its optical drive for games, according to leaked documents. At least it'll play Blu-ray (maybe)! Google Play might be getting a new UI, which is very exciting for some people, but definitely not exciting for most others. And a$99 Kindle Fire is probably not going to be happening any time soon. At all.Another day, another smartwatch rumor. This time, it's Google that was feeling left out, what with all the "iWatch" rumors and Samsung throwing its hat into the ring. What do you think about Google's rumor smartwatch? What do you think would make it different from the plethora of other smartwatches that are out there? Leave a comment and let us know what you think!

Leaked: list of first cities to get T-Mobile LTE on March 26

t mobile 4g lte network
On Tuesday, March 26, T-Mobile will flip the switch on its LTE network in seven cities across the US. See the list here.
It took them forever (plus a botched sale attempt to AT&T), but the fine folks at T-Mobile are finally ready to light up their Long Term Evolution network. The grand opening will happen on March 26, and we’ll be accompanied by the official launch of T-Mobile’s new Uncarrier brandingand new unsubsidized plans.
While the details of the Uncarrier campaign have been thoroughly leaked already, we didn’t know until now the markets where T-Mobile will first roll out its 4G LTE network. Today, that final mystery has been dispelled, thanks to a report from the guys at TMoNews that lists the seven cities that will get T-Mobile LTE on March 26:
  • Las Vegas, NV
  • Phoenix, AZ
  • San Jose, CA
  • Houston, TX
  • Washington, DC
  • Kansas City, MO
  • Baltimore, MD
If you own a Galaxy Note 2 from T-Mo or if you brought your own LTE device to the network, you’ll get to experience high-speed wireless speeds without lifting a finger. Another way to get in is to wait for the launch of the Galaxy S4 or the HTC One, two great LTE handsets slated for release in late April.
We’ve had clues about some of the markets in this list (Las Vegas for instance, since CES in January), but confirmation is always welcomed. Now, all we have to do is wait till Tuesday for the official details.

Rogers Xperia ZL pricing leaked ahead of early April launch

Sony Xperia Z vs Sony Xperia ZL [aa] (1)
Those Rogers subscribers interested in getting on of Sony’s new high-end Xperia handsets should be happy to hear that the Xperia ZL will soon be available from the Canadian carrier, with a new leak confirming launch details for this particular mobile operator.
Sure, it’s not the Xperia Z flagship, but the Xperia ZL is definitely worth considering when buying a new handset this year. In case you forgot, the Xperia ZL features a 5-inch 1080p display (443PPI) with Mobile Bravia Engine 2 technology, 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, 4G LTE, 13-megapixel camera with Exmor RS sensor, 2-megapixel front-facing camera and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
According to a leaked screenshot published by MobileSyrup, the phone will be available in Canada in early April, having an estimated ship date of April 2.
The internal document in the following image also reveals the pricing structure for the smartphone: $624.99 outright or $124.99 with a new three-year contract with the carrier. A few days ago, we told you that the handset is available for pre-order from Sony, carrying an off contract price of $674.99.

Supposed picture and specs of the Xiaomi M3 leak

Xiaomi Mi3
What is said to be a picture of the Xiaomi M3 or MI-3 has showed up on Nowhere Else, alongside a set of specs.
The hardware of the new Chinese smartphone, rumored to come out next summer, seems to be different from what was leaked a while ago (there were also voices suggesting the possibility of an octa-core version). According to the person who took the photos, we’re looking at a quad-core Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 processor running at 2GHz, a 13-megapixel camera and a 3000mAh battery.
The report says the M3 will have 5-inch Full HD display and the case is made of aluminum. If the phone in the images is truly the Xiaomi M3 or MI-3, I must say that it looks very similar to the HTC One to me.
It will be interesting to see whether Xiaomi will follow into the footsteps of Huawei – the Huawei Mate is available for pre-order on Amazon Germany –  and ZTE, and start to slowly make its way to the more international markets, especially since the Xiaomi M2 is already available outside of China, in Australia.
Would you want to buy a Xiaomi M3?

Sony’s unannounced Xperia SP gets its first render

Xperia-SP-M35h
Aside from the flagship Xperia Z and Xperia ZL, Sony is prepping a pair of mid-range phones that have yet to be made official, the Xperia SP and L.
We first learned of the former last month, when leaked pictures of the device made their way online. We also know that it’s possibly going to be unveiled in Russia in a few days. Now, we have what appears to be the first rendering of the Xperia SP.
sony-xperia-sp
The render seems to match the live pictures of the Xperia SP, as seen above. So it looks like there’ll be no visual surprise when Sony finally introduces the handset. Some rumored specs of the SP include a 4.55-inch HD display, a dual-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB RAM, and an 8-megapixel rear camera.
Not too shabby, right? But apparently they’re only good enough to be classified as a mid-ranger nowadays.
If you’re in the UK, you may get to play with the Xperia SP very soon, as it’s been rumored to hit stores in the coming days. It might be offered for around £310 ($470) off-contract, which isn’t at all cheap.
Are you at all intrigued by the Xperia SP?

Is this LG Nexus 5 leak the future? Or fantasy?

So, there's a few reasons that some insanely awesome specs for what's purported to be Google's next Nexus phone by LG just popped up less than 48 hours after the introduction of Samsung's new Android flagship, the Galaxy S4.
It could be that someone associated with Google or LG thought it might be a good idea to leak the details in order to take some wind out of Samsung's sails and give us a glimpse at some sweet next-generation hardware that's just a few months off. OR, we're just getting hella-trolled.
So I recommend grabbing Gandhi and heading to the sea to find enough grains of salt to take with this one, but it's still compelling enough to pass on.
Android and Me claims to have received an unverified tip that Google plans to release a Nexus 5 phone around October of this year and is currently evaluating prototypes from multiple manufacturers, including one from LG code-named "Megalodon."
Here's the drool-worthy list of rumored specs for the Megalodon:
  • 5.2" 1920x1080 OLED Display
  • 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800
  • 3GB RAM
  • 16MP rear camera by OmniVision capable of recording 4k video
  • 2.1MP front camera capable of recording 1080p video
  • 3300 mAh Lithium Polymer battery
  • Front stereo speakers
  • Qualcomm RF360 (LTE 150 Mbps & HSPA+)

There's an awful lot about this that seems suspect or too good to be true, but there's nothing wrong with setting expectations high if we ever want to see the next revolutionary device. It's also rumored to come in the standard 16/32/64GB storage options and feature some sort of gesture-based controls.
And in case you're wondering, "Megalodon" refers to a terrifying prehistoric shark that was many times the size of a modern Great White. Perhaps it's an apropos name for a device that could lead us into the next stage of the smartphone wars. Only problem is, right now neither Megalodon is known to actually exist.

First Google X Phone prototype was actually leaked this week, new report says

motorola-leak-vietnam-x-phone-1
The day before the Galaxy S4 event in New York City we showed you two different Motorola leaks, one from Brazil and one from Vietnam, and wondered whether the latter was showing us the X Phone or not.
When looking at its specs and features, we concluded that this unnamed device can’t be the X Phone, and that instead it could be related to the phones spotted in Brazil.
Later that day, Motorola announced the RAZR D1 and RAZR D3, two low- to mid-range Android Jelly Bean phones, but neither one looked anything like the phone spotted in Vietnam (image above).
Now, a new Android and Me report tells us that the phone that was leaked in Vietnam actually represents an early X Phone prototype, even if it’s not necessarily a high-end device.
The same publication got wind yesterday, with just a few hours to go until the Galaxy S4 announcement, that the X Phone will be a new family of handsets for Google. A brand mean to challenge Samsung’s Galaxy family in the process.
That report said the X Phones will be user-customizable when it comes to hardware, that they will be guaranteed at least one Android update (which would be pushed out by Motorola and not the carriers) and that they will come with a budget-friendly price in mind, with Google interested to sell these devices directly to buyers.
Is the rumor too wild for your taste? Well hang on to your grain of salt, as the website has followed up with a second update on the story.
x-phone-prototype-back
According to updated information from “several anonymous sources within Motorola,” the X Phone will start shipping in late July, not June as it was said yesterday.
The Vietnam phone appears to be the first X Phone, and while it’s an early prototype, its design has been only slightly changed. Apparently the back of the phone will include a touch-friendly Motorola logo that will be used to offer users access to some sort of controls – maybe the previously rumored human language system for the X Phone (which we have no idea what it really is yet). And yes, Google is interested in placing some controls of the back of a handset, according to a recent patent.
However, the Google X Phone will not be about top-of-the-line hardware, as Google is looking for something else:
Google is not focused on specs or software gimmicks (like Samsung) for their upcoming products. Instead they want to produce an ultra-affordable mobile device that connects to a bunch of wearable accessories they plan to release later this year. Google Glass and Google Watch are two examples of these accessories, and we are told more are in the works.
And when I say “ultra-affordable” mobile device, I’m talking a starting retail price of $199 or less. Google and Motorola will sell smartphones for the same prices that people are willing to pay for today’s flagships, but these devices won’t be tied to a two year contract.
We’re certainly going to keep tabs on these X Phone rumors, as they’re certainly getting more and more interesting. We’ll also point out that we were right to wonder whether Google will release some sort of X Phone rumor campaign around the Galaxy S4 launch, because, as it turns out, we had plenty of X Phone rumors these days.
Meanwhile, let us hear what you think about an Android device that would run the latest Android version and offer users the ability of choosing at least some hardware components? Would you be interested in buying such a handset, even if it won’t offer the high-end specs?

Full HD Neo N003 phone slated for April release, due out in two versions worth $145 and up

neo-n003
We know, today’s Samsung’s special day and nobody can steal the spotlight from the “next best thing”. And God knows LG’s trying. But how about pausing the endless GS4 rumor mill for just a second to hear a few extra details about the recently leaked Neo N003?
You know the Neo N003, right? The 5-inch Full HD beast that was rumored to come to China for an unbelievable starting price of $145. Well, as it turns out, more pundits are confirming both its existence and budget friendliness.
Also, we have the first unofficial ETA – April. Obviously, the thing is still only slated for a China release, but export policies tend to be more permissive than before, so we can at least hope to see a couple of retailers shipping it outside Chinese borders.
The Neo N003 is to come in two slightly different versions, one dubbed “Youth” and one “Premium”. Both will boast the same brilliant 1,080p IPS panel with Corning Gorilla Glass and run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.
neo-n003-2
The similarities unfortunately extend to the CPU (a quad-core 1.2 GHz Mediatek MT6589 unit for each), while the amount of RAM and on-board storage seem to be the most critical differences. The Youth will be packing 1 gig of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory, while the Premium will double the RAM and quadruple the storage.
A 13 MP snapper with a Sony sensor will be fitted on the back of both phones, while on the front you’ll be getting a very nice 3 MP cam on the Premium and only a 0.3 MP on the Youth. Finally, both Neos are to pack hefty 3,000 mAh batteries, Yamaha speakers and some kind of noise reduction technology.
As for pricing, the Neo N003 Youth is to cost 899 Yuan ($144) off-contract, while the Premium should go for 400 Yuan extra ($207 in total). That’s mighty cheap, even by Chinese standards, isn’t it?

High-res Galaxy S4 image gallery leaks, reveals specs and features

galaxy-s4-image-galler-leak-2
With less than a day until the Galaxy S4 becomes official, a new extensive image gallery featuring the device has been leaked, and from where we’re standing, the images look very convincing.
The images, found by it168, seem to confirm the dual-SIM purported Galaxy S4 model we’ve shown you a few days ago, also leaked in China, and which we initially questioned – not that we can be 100% that this is indeed the Galaxy S4. After all, we’ve seen a fair share of concept images and fakes to hang on to our grains of salt until Samsung actually unveils the device.
Even so, the high-res images available in the gallery below are pretty interesting. According toit168, this Galaxy S4 model features a 4.99-inch display with 1080p resolution, 1.8GHz eight-core Exynos 5410 processor, PowerVR SGX 544MP3 GPU, 2GB of memory, 16GB of storage, microSD support and 2600mAh user-replaceable battery.
The Galaxy S4 GT-I9502 (that’s the model number of this unit) weighs 138g and has a 7.7mm profile. Before you ask, yes the Galaxy S4 comes with a plastic body, at least the model in these images, one that’s already cracked in these images. And yes, there’s a physical Home button in there as well.
Other features worth mentioning are the S Pen-like hovering touch support and the eye tracking feature that was mentioned in various leaks so far.
We’ll cover the Galaxy S4 extensively today – we’re even giving one away to a lucky winner – so keep us bookmarked for more Galaxy S4 details!
Meanwhile, let us know what your thoughts are on these new Galaxy S4 images and the details they reveal.

MVNO carrier Ting says it will get the Galaxy S4

We're still 24 hours from knowing if the Samsung Galaxy S4 even exists, but that hasn't stopped one wireless carrier from bragging about the device to customers.
Earlier today, Ting, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that resells Sprint's network, posted a blog on its site where it promised that not only would it snag the long-awaited Galaxy S4 but also the recently-announced HTC One, and the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini.
"In advance of Samsung's big launch event tomorrow, we're excited to say that we'll be able to offer the follow up to the Samsung Galaxy S3, which we'll call the Samsung Galaxy S4 unless we're provided reason to do otherwise," wrote Andrew Moore-Crispin. "What's more, we'll be able to do so at around the same time as the major carriers; on or at least around the actual launch day."

As for the other handsets, Moore-Crispin wrote that the HTC One hit will be available for preorder in about 30 days (and shipping in a few weeks later) and that the Galaxy S3 Mini will land at the same time that the Galaxy S4 goes on sale. All devices will be contract free.Moore-Crispin doesn't spill any further details beyond saying that customers can preorder the unannounced handset in six to eight weeks for a shipping date of a few weeks later. If that timeline is accurate, it would place the GS4's retail release at the end of May or early June. Considering that the Galaxy S3went on sale in June 2012, it's not a bad guess.
Honestly, the whole thing is weird, particularly given Samsung's secrecy surroundingtomorrow's event (the invitation only asks us to "come and see the next Galaxy"). By all means, I expect the Galaxy S4 to make its debut in 24 hours, but for now I see this as nothing but a publicity stunt on Ting's part (and, yes, this story means that the stunt is working).
Ting events admits that the blog is "it's all speculation anyway," but it makes me hopeful that Samsung will accomplish what it really needs to do tomorrow: release the Galaxy S4 on as many carriers as possible all on the same day. If Ting's announcement is true, then Sprint is a likely contender, and I doubt the other majors would let a small MVNO get first dibs.

Leak: New graphics show details about new T-Mobile trade-in program

T-Mobile Trade In Leak 1
T-Mobile has been a busy bee over the last few months. Their merger with MetroPCS wasapproved by the FCC earlier today. Also, they have been working very hard to become the uncarrier and get rid of contract plans. Now, it appears as though T-Mobile is giving their trade-in program a revamping as well.
As you can see from the images below and above, the new trade-in program features an instant discount on new devices when an old device is traded in. The images themselves come from a trusted source that is close to T-Mobile. Obviously, it would be for the value of the phone being traded in. So if you have something old, you won’t get much. However, if you have something newer and more valuable, then your next device could be cheaper than you think. A second option is to get the discount and then mail in your phone in 2 weeks. This could be very helpful if you’re pre-ordering a device and can’t give up your current one until the new one gets there.
This could be awesome for T-Mobile customers for a variety of reasons. Since they’re doing away with contract plans and becoming the uncarrier, being able to trade in your phone for an instant discount on a new one can help pay for those expensive, high end phones without being suckered into a 2 year contract. Also, for those of us with a lot of spare phones laying around the house, this is a good way to get rid of older hardware and get something new for it.
T-Mobile Trade In Leak 2

When will this new trade-in policy take effect for T-Mobile customers?

Well, these leaked documents didn’t come with a release date. Since they appear to be training material for T-Mobile employees, this new trade-in program could happen as early as tomorrow. The more likely scenario, though, is that T-Mobile is still weeks away from launching this new trade-in program. The worst case scenario would have customers waiting a few months.
So what are everyone’s thoughts on the new trade-in program from T-Mobile? Will this help customers a lot in paying for new devices on T-Mobile’s new uncarrier strategy, or is it simply T-Mobile catching up to the trade-in programs of competitors?

Google Now for iPhone and iPad outed in leaked, then pulled, YouTube video

google-now-iphone-ipad-ios-1
What looks to be like a genuine video, pulled after being initially revealed on YouTube, shows us Google Now for iPhone and iPad, an app that could soon be available in the App Store but one Google is yet to make official.
As Android users already know, Google Now is an advanced search feature available on Jelly Bean handsets that sort of acts like a personal assistant. In order for it to work, you have to share various things to Google, which may sound kind of scary to some people. That way, the app can provide personal search results based on your everyday actions, interests, searches, emails, and so on.
Google Now is reportedly going to be available to Chrome users in the future, and it makes plenty of sense to see Google develop Google Now apps for other mobile operating systems, iOS included. After all, Google already has a variety of iOS apps available in the App Store, so Google Now for iPhone and iPad could be the next app it releases.

However, Google is yet to unveil the product, and the video above, which was saved by a viewer and then made available by Engadget, is not yet confirmed. Even if it looks like it’s the real deal, compared to previous Google Now YouTube videos, we’ll have to wait for Google to announce the product to make sure it’s actually real.

New unnamed Motorola phone leaks, not the Google X Phone

motorola-leak-vietnam-x-phone-1
With just over a day to go until the Galaxy S4 becomes official, we have more Motorola-related leaks, but it looks like the unknown Motorola phone doesn’t seem to be worthy of the Google X Phone title.
The Google X Phone is reportedly going to be Motorola’s flagship device this year, a handset that will be unveiled in mid-May at Google I/O 2013 and that will run a stock Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie version.
In the past few days we’ve seen not one, but two Google X Phone reports detailing potential specs and features for the device, but they were rather contradictory.
Now we have two leaked new Motorola handsets, the RAZR D1 and an unnamed one, which were spotted in Brazil. We’ll add to those the unnamed device featured in the image above (and video below,) which was seen in Vietnam.
This handset is definitely a new Motorola creation, but don’t get too excited, as it doesn’t seem to qualify for that X Phone moniker. The handset is apparently going to offer users a 4.65-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with 720p resolution and 320ppi density, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro (or higher) processor, Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of RAM and a 2200mAh battery under the hood.
Other features include a thin bezel, on-screen buttons, an unseen before “M” logo on the top of the display, a slim profile, non-removable curved back case, no micro SD support, and what looks to be stock Android without that many UI changes.

At best, this will be a mid-ranged device by 2013 standards, so is it possible that this particular device is that second mysterious handset spotted in Brazil earlier?
We’ll probably have to wait a while to see pictures of that X Phone unicorn leak, but at least we know Motorola is also working on at least a couple of new Android handsets for 2013.
Are you buying Motorola this year, or will you get something else?
