Shadowrun Returns first gameplay preview is here, and it looks amazing

Shadowrun returns
Love the Shadowrun series but wish to see it return to its roots, instead of dressed up as a first-person shooter? Every true Shadowrun fan’s wet dream is almost here, and Shadowrun Returns first gameplay preview looks more than amazing.
For those that don’t follow the series (shame on you), Shadowrun has its roots as a pen and paper RPG that later found itself on both the Nintendo SNES and Sega Genesis. Shadowrun Returns is shaping up to be everything Shadowrun fans have been waiting for, in large part due to the fact that Jordan Weisman is leading the indie studio behind the game. If you don’t already know, Weisman is the man responsible for creating the PnP world of Shadowrun. It doesn’t get any more ‘back to its roots’ than that.
Harebrained Schemes is one of the many independent developer studios out there usingKickstarter as a means of funding, and even managed to acquire $1,895,722 in total pledges about ten months ago. As you can see in the trailer, they have put the money to good use.

As you can see in the gameplay video, Shadowrun Returns takes place in a world that is sort of a mashup between cyberpunk, high fantasy and dystopian fiction. Orcs, cyborgs and greedy corporations abound. For SNES Shadowrun fans, you’ll also be happy to know that Jake Armitage even makes a return in the game.
Even if you aren’t a fan of Shadowrun, this game is worth getting excited about if you enjoy the turn-based tactical strategy RPG genre. I also see how fans of classic Fallout and Fallout 2could find a lot to love here as well.
Okay, the game sounds amazing, but when the hell is it coming? While PC and Mac users can already preorder the game for its summertime launch, iOS and Android users will have to wait a bit longer.
Unfortunately no exact timeframe has been announced for mobile gamers, though we can at least hope it comes in time for the holidays. Still, I’d take a guess that this could actually be worth that wait. What do you think?
