Mystery Sharp FIH-VKY device surfaces with Full HD screen, Android 4.2 and Snapdragon 600 CPU

 

You might not remember this, but HTC was not the sole Full HD phone road-opener, with Sharp unveiling a 1080p device very early as well. The Aquos SH930W even followed the J Butterlyvery closely to the market, being launched in Russia and a couple of Asian countries back in December 2012.

But while the J Butterfly hit mainstream global popularity under a few different monikers, including Droid DNA, the SH930W suddenly and abruptly dropped off the radar. I would even go so far as to say Sharp probably never sold a thousand of SH930W units. Worldwide. Which is a shame, but that’s how the game is played.

Only Sharp is no quitter and is now looking to bring the world another more impressive Full HD handheld. This one is mysteriously codenamed FIH-VKY and has been spotted in GLBenchmark’s records.

Besides the display’s 1,794 x 1,080 resolution (which will translate into 1,920 x 1,080 pixels after taking navigation buttons into account), there isn’t much the benchmark reveals. There’s Android 4.2.1 on board, which is no surprise, as well as an Adreno 320 GPU.

The processor is not mentioned, but, based on the GPU, we’re pretty sure Sharp is going to go with one of Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 600 units. And, looking at the high-level 3D performance results, the CPU/GPU combo makes this fellow two or three times zippier than the SH930W. Which was no slouch either, packing a dual-core Snapdragon MSM8260A processor, 2 GB of RAM and an Adreno 225 GPU.

To put FIH-VKY’s benchmark results into further perspective, they also seem to be a lot betterthan HTC Butterfly’s scores. In which case Sharp really has a powerhouse on its hands this time around.

Of course, it’s way too early to fully evaluate the new guy, as we don’t know the size of the screen (at least 5 inch, that’s a certainty), the technology used (fingers crossed for IGZO!), the amount of RAM, storage, the cameras, battery size and so on and so forth.
